Tischer
Violist Ray Tischer has performed solo, chamber music
and jazz internationally in Carnegie Hall, Hong Kong
City Concert Hall, the Seoul National Theater and Zipper
Concert Hall with the Armadillo, Festival Arts and Bangkok
String Quartets; the Aeolian and Cambridge Chamber Players;
the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra; European jazz pianist
Georg Rox and his own bands the Britt Bossa Orchestra,
the L. A. Crossover Band, Shades of Rhythm and the Ray
Tischer Quintet.
Having played on over 1000 motion picture soundtracks,
T.V. series, commercials and recordings with such artists
as Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Natalie Cole, Celine
Dion, Barry White, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Willie
Nelson, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Joni Mitchell, Aerosmith,
Jimmy Page/Robert Plant, Metallica, Placido Domingo,
Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Kenny Rankin, Diana
Krall, Eddy Daniels, Charlie Haden, Michael Brecker,
Tom Scott, John Adams and Peter Schickele, he has also
produced the CD Canciones del Sol with the Britt Bossa
Orchestra.
As principal viola, he as appeared with the Royal Ballet
of Convent Garden, Royal Danish Ballet, Joffrey Ballet
and the L.A. Ballet Orchestras; Deutsche Oper Berlin,
San Francisco Opera's Western Opera Theater, the L.A.
and San Diego Civic Light Opera Orchestras; the Long
Beach, Pacific, L.A. Bach Festival and the Britt Music
Festival Orchestras; and the San Diego, Orange County,
Pasadena and L.A. Mozart Chamber Orchestras. Additionally,
he has played with the Bolshoi, Kirov, National Cuban,
Stuttgart, New York City and the American Ballet Orchestras;
the New York, Los Angeles and Long Beach Opera Orchestras;
the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego, Hollywood Bowl
and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestras among others.
Further, he has performed with the Oscar's, Grammy's,
Emmy's, Downbeat and Billboard Music Awards Orchestras.
His teachers have included William Primrose, Paul Doktor,
Walter Trampler, Milton Thomas, Alan de Veritch, Myra
Kestenbaum, David Schwartz and his mother Ann Tischer.
Having completed his D.M.A. in viola at USC, he has
taught at the California Institute of the Arts, Henry
Mancini Institute, Britt Institute, University of California
at Santa Barbara, California State University at Long
Beach, Occidental College, Ventura and Moorpark Community
Colleges and as a Rockefeller Fellow at the University
of Fine Arts in Bangkok, Thailand. In addition, he currently
presents master classes and workshops in viola, chamber
music, improvisation, Qigong (Chinese Yoga) and marketing
at universities, colleges, high schools and music festivals
such as the Britt Music Festival, the California Viola
Congress, the Western Suzuki Conference at California
State University at San Francisco and in Germany at
various Hochschules.
Active as a composer and arranger, he has presented
works at the Britt Music Festival, the International
Psychosynthesis Association Conference, Occidental College,
the Detmold (Germany) Crossover Music Festival, and
for various industrial video projects for such companies
as IBM, General Electric and Sun Productions.
